Reuse

The best thing to do with your bulky household waste, such as sofas, tables, chairs, and other furniture is to find it a new home.  You could try one of the following:

  • Giving away to Family or Friends
  • Donating to Charity
  • Selling unwanted items on notice boards, swap shops, local auctions or various websites

Ceredigion County Council also works in partnership with Reuse organisations CRAFT in Aberystwyth and New Life Community Projects in Cardigan. Both are not for profit organizations who work to encourage and support recycling and reuse in the local community.

CRAFT is a reuse organisation based at Aberystwyth, behind the train station. If you have unwanted furniture or household items which are still in useable condition, CRAFT offer a FREE COLLECTION. For more information visit their website www.craftrecycling.org.uk or phone 01970 626532.

New Life Community Projects is based at Cardigan, in Queen’s Terrace. If you have unwanted furniture or household items which are still in useable condition, New Life Community Projects offer a FREE COLLECTION. For more information visit their website newlifewales, The Projects Cardigan (Facebook) or phone 01239 621253.

If your household items aren’t suitable for reuse you can take them to your local Household Waste Site for FREE or arrange for the Council to collect it through the Chargeable Bulky Collection.

Bulky and Chargeable Household Collections

THIS SHOULD BE YOUR LAST RESORT AS THE ITEMS ARE LIKELY TO BE DISPOSED OF IN LANDFILL.

The Council offers a bulky house hold collection. This service is split into two tiers:

Tier One

The first tier includes those domestic items which would generally be considered portable - the type of item you may typically take with you when you move house - such as:

Sofas, Chairs, Fridges, Freezers, Cookers, Carpets, Curtains, Televisions, Video Recorders, Beds, Wardrobes

This service is charged at £61.00 for up to 6 items, and £61.00 for each further 6 items after that. For example, the charge would be £61.00 for 1-6 items or £122 for 7-12.

Please note that all items to be collected as part of the Bulky Waste Collection will need to be presented outside of the property. The waste collection crew will not enter your property to collect the items.

If you need to amend the list of items to be collected as part of the Bulky collection, this can be done up until 2:30pm the day prior to collection. (2:30pm on a Friday for Monday collection).

To book a bulky collection ring the Contact Centre on 01545 570881.

Please note that this service is not for use by landlords or businesses.
If it is believed that a collection request has been made illegitimately then the items identified will not be collected.

Tier Two

The second tier includes all items not covered above, which can be defined as Household Fixtures and Fittings (bathroom suites, kitchen units, doors, windows, storage heaters etc.) and Outside Furniture (sheds, greenhouses, bunkers etc.). The price for this service is available on application.
