Active Travel Network Map 2026 Review – Stage 2 Consultation

This campaign will close 25th September 2026.

Help Shape the Active Travel Network Map in Ceredigion

Earlier this year, Ceredigion County Council started updating its Active Travel Network Map (ATNM) and asked for your views.

Your feedback was taken onboard, and we’d like you to look at the latest version of the network map.

Visit the network map and add your comments here no later than midnight on Friday 25 September, 2026.

Why is it being updated?

Under the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013, all local authorities in Wales must regularly review and improve their walking, wheeling and cycling routes. Our current map was approved by the Welsh Government in 2022, and now it’s time to reflect the changes and improvements made over the past four years.

The consultation focuses on the main towns of Aberystwyth, Cardigan and Lampeter, which have been selected by the Welsh Government as the designated Active Travel localities in the County.

What’s being updated?

The updated map will include:

  • Existing Routes: These are routes that meet Welsh Government standards for walking, wheeling or cycling (or all three).
  • Future Routes: These are proposed routes that either don’t yet exist or need improvements to meet the required standards.

We need your feedback

This is the second stage of public engagement, and your input is essential. Whether you walk, wheel, cycle, or simply care about better travel options in Ceredigion, we want your ideas on how to improve the network.

Additional information:

The inclusion of Future Routes on our Active Travel Network Map does not guarantee construction in the future.  Many of these Future Routes are aspirational and will require extensive scheme development work (for example: ground surveys, ecology / environmental surveys, drainage surveys, planning applications for change of land use (where relevant) and potential land negotiations etc.) before a route may be considered viable for construction, to then try and source the required funding.  Most Future Routes usually take a number of years to satisfy all these processes before they are built.

Some Future Routes are included where new housing developments may be planned and it will be the responsibility of the developer to install new active travel provision at these locations.

The North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency (NMWTRA) manage the A487 and A44 in Ceredigion, on behalf of the Welsh Government who have responsibility for Trunk Roads in Wales.
