Flying Start Childcare for 2-3 year olds
Flying Start is a Welsh Government initiative which provides support and opportunities for families with children under the age of 4 in certain postcode areas.
The 4 core services provided are:-
- Early Years Health Service
- Funded Sessional Childcare
- Parenting Support
- Early Language Support
You may be eligible for funded childcare for 2-3 year olds dependent on your postcode. The childcare is provided within a setting of your choice for 2 and a half hours a day, 5 days a week for 39 weeks of the year.

2 year old funded childcare (Universal): (Summer 2026)
The Welsh Government is currently working with local authorities and other partners to finalise how this will be delivered.
As existing childcare provision varies across Wales, the approach may differ slightly between local authority areas.
Ceredigion County Council is developing its plan for expansion, which will need to be agreed by the Welsh Government.
Once this has been confirmed, we will share further information and contact both childcare providers and families who may benefit from these changes.
