In consultation with Ceredigion County Council and Dyfed Powys Police, the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA) have agreed a set of diversionary routes which may be set up in the case of an incident or incidents necessitating road closure at certain key points on the Welsh Government’s Trunk Road network within Ceredigion and adjoining Authority areas.

The following information is provided for information only and it should be noted that routes might be adapted when put in place, based upon factors such as temporary local road closures, weather conditions, or other extenuating factors.

A44

A44, Section A – Llangurig to Dyffryn Castell

Westbound Traffic
Divert onto the A470 at Llangurig, then onto A489 at Cemmaes Road and A487 at Machynlleth towards Aberystwyth. At Bow Street take A4819 to re-join the A44 at Lovesgrove Roundabout. (Note: Restricted height bridge 14’6” max clearance north of Caersws).

Eastbound Traffic
From Aberystwyth take the A487 North, or from the A44 onto the A4819 at Lovesgrove Roundabout to join the A487 at Bow Street. At Machynlleth take the A489, at Cemmaes Road take the A470 to Caersws then on to Llangurig. (Note: Restricted height bridge 14’6” max clearance north of Caersws). 

A44, Section B – Dyffryn Castell to Lovesgrove Roundabout

Westbound Traffic
Divert onto the B4343 at Dyffryn Castell to join the A4120, through Devils Bridge to Southgate roundabout, Aberystwyth to reach Lovesgrove Roundabout, continue diversion to Llanbadarn Fawr and on to the A44.

Eastbound Traffic
Divert traffic coming in from the A487 onto the A4120 via Devils Bridge to join the A44 at Dyffryn Castell.

A44, Section C – Closure of Lovesgrove Roundabout

Westbound Traffic
Divert onto B4343 east of Ponterwyd, take A4120 at Devils Bridge to Southgate roundabout, Aberystwyth. Continue diversion to re-join A44 at Llanbadarn Fawr.

Eastbound Traffic
Divert onto the A487 South, to Southgate roundabout, take the A4120, at Devils Bridge, take the B4343, re-join the A44 east of Ponterwyd.

A44, Section D – Lovesgrove Roundabout to Llanbadarn Fawr

Westbound Traffic
Divert at Lovesgrove roundabout onto the A4159, turn left onto the A487 at Bow Street, turn left at Coopers Junction, Aberystwyth onto Llanbadarn Road.

Eastbound Traffic
Divert at Llanbadarn Fawr along Llanbadarn Road, turn right at Coopers Junction onto the A487, turn right onto A4159 at Bow Street, to re-join the A44 at Lovesgrove Roundabout.

A44, Section E – Closure of Llanbadarn Fawr Junction

Westbound Traffic
Divert onto A4159 at Lovesgrove roundabout to Bow Street, take A487 to Aberystwyth Town Centre.

Eastbound Traffic
Divert onto the A487 North to Bow Street, take A4159 and re-join A44 at Lovesgrove Roundabout.

A44, Section F – Llanbadarn Fawr to Coopers Junction

Westbound Traffic
Divert onto A4120 at Llanbadarn Fawr, turn at Southgate Roundabout onto Penparcau Road, turn down Mill Street, Terrace Road, North Parade and Northgate Street.

Eastbound Traffic
Divert onto Northgate Street, then Thespian Street, Alexandra Road, Mill Street, Penparcau Road, Southgate Roundabout onto A4120 and re-join A454 at Llanbadarn Fawr.

A487, Section A – Fishguard to near Eglwyswrw (B4329 Junction)

Northbound Traffic
Divert onto Hamilton Street, Park Street and Hottipass Street to join the B4313, then take the B4329 and re-join the A487 at junction B4329 (near Eglwyswrw).

Southbound Traffic
Divert onto B4329 (near Eglwyswrw) then take the B4313 to Fishguard Main Street.

Divert onto B4582 at Nevern turning, re-join A487 at Llantood.

A487, Section E – Cardigan Ridgeway to Hospital Roundabouts

Northbound Traffic
Divert at Ridgeway Roundabout onto Castle Street, follow one way system through High Street, turn right onto Feidrfair, left into Pont y Cleifion and re-join the A487 at Hospital Roundabout.

Southbound Traffic
Divert at Hospital Roundabout onto Pont y Cleifion, follow one way system through Morgan Street and Strand, over the bridge onto Castle Street and re-join A487 at Ridgeway Roundabout.

A487, Section F – Closure of Cardigan Hospital Roundabout

Northbound Traffic
Divert at Ridgeway Roundabout onto A478, joining the B4332, at Cenarth join A484 to Newcastle Emlyn, then A475 at Adpar onto B4333 through Cwm-cou and re-join A487 at Tan-y-groes.

Southbound Traffic
Divert onto B4333 at Tan-y-groes, continue through Cwm-cou to Adpar then the A475 to Newcastle Emlyn, take the A484 at Cenarth, take the B4332 then join the A478, re-join the A487 at Cardigan Ridgeway Roundabout.

A487, Section G – Hospital Roundabout to Tan-y-groes

Northbound Traffic
Divert at Hospital Roundabout onto A484 to Newcastle Emlyn, then the A475 to Adpar onto the B4333, through Cwm-cou and re-join A487 at Tan-y-groes.

Southbound Traffic
Divert onto B4333 at Tan-y-groes, continue through Cwm-cou to Adpar then the A475 to Newcastle Emlyn, then take the A484 and re-join the A487 at Cardigan Hospital Roundabout.

A487, Section H – Cardigan Hospital Roundabout to Brynhoffnant

Northbound Traffic
Divert onto A484 at Cardigan Hospital Roundabout, then onto the A475 at Newcastle Emlyn, then B4571 then B4334, re-joining A487 at Brynhoffnant.

Divert onto B4334 at Brynhoffnant, then the B4571, join the A475 followed by A484 at Newcastle Emlyn and re-join the A487 at Cardigan Hospital Roundabout.
