Dolen Teifi Community Transport
It is now some 3 years since Llandysul & Pont Tyweli Ymlaen acquired the use of the community bus from Ceredigion County Council, and as one of the Ymlaen projects Dolen Teifi Community Transport was set up.
During this time some 50 groups have used the bus for various activities, and have enabled many local residents to be able to access places who otherwise would not have been able to leave their local surroundings.
A number of volunteers have taken up the MiDAS training, and because of the ongoing demand by volunteers for training, Dolen Teifi applied for and won, funding from "Awards for All" thus enabling Dolen Teifi to put two volunteers forward to become MiDAS Driver Assessors. David Morris and Roy Talbot have both qualified and will be able to train other volunteers to become MiDAS drivers.
One of the Dolen Teifi volunteer drivers- Oliver Jones, competed in the Wales MiDAS Driver of the year in Llandudno in October 2009, and was successful in becoming runner up.
Following the success of the Dolen Teifi bus, members felt they were in a position to take on the responsibility of purchasing their very own bus, and through funding support from TraCC, Llandysul Community Council and Ceredigion County Council, we were able to purchase a fully accessible 3 year old bus, thus we are now in a position to offer residents of residential homes as well as other community groups the opportunity to have days out, and these outings are very much appreciated.
