Building Control
What are Building Regulations: what you need to know
Building Regulations and Planning permission are separate legal requirements. Even if Planning permission is not necessary for your project, you may still need to comply with the Building Regulations.
In Wales, the Building Regulations are national standards that apply to most construction work—whether residential or commercial. These regulations are in place to ensure that our built environment is safe, healthy, and sustainable. They also set standards for energy efficiency, accessibility for people with disabilities, and overall environmental performance.
As Registered Building Inspectors, we take pride in delivering a proactive, professional, and user-friendly service. Our team of highly qualified inspectors are committed to supporting your project with expert advice on all aspects of the Building Regulations. By working closely with Planning, Highways, and Environmental Health departments, we help streamline the development process. This however does not replace any consultation between yourself and each respective service that may be necessary as part of your approval process.
Our inspectors bring valuable local knowledge and are actively involved in advising on public safety, demolitions, dangerous structures, and safety at sports grounds. We also collaborate closely with the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and other emergency services to ensure public protection across all areas.
Before starting any building work, it's important to check whether Building Regulations approval is required. Meeting the requirements of the Building Regulations is the responsibility of the person carrying out the building work and, if they are not the same person, the owner of the building.
