The responsibility for running the services at Tregaron Leisure Centre have been taken over by a community group following the completion of a lease between Ceredigion County Council and Hamdden Caron Leisure.

Hamdden Caron Leisure are a group of volunteers from Tregaron and the surrounding area. It is the culmination of a process in which the Council sought expressions of interest for the delivery of community sports activities from the leisure centre. The process was established following work undertaken by the Council’s Leisure Reconfiguration Board.

Rhydian Wilson from Hamdden Caron Leisure said, “We’re looking forward to maintaining and hopefully improving the service for the people of the area.”

Tregaron Town and County Councillor Catherine Hughes, said, “It is wonderful to see the community working together to ensure the people of Tregaron and the surrounding area continue to have access to leisure services at the centre. We wish the group well and I’m certain the local community will support this venture to ensure it is a success.”

The Council will support Hamdden Caron Leisure with their new venture and will continue to operate some services from the leisure centre.

Councillor Rhodri Evans, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Lifestyle Services said, “It is heart-warming to see a group of local people coming together and being positive in trying to find a solution that will mean people can continue to enjoy sport and physical activity. The County Council will continue to collaborate and utilise the facilities for exercise referral schemes and other activities at the leisure centre.”

The Leisure Centre is open and can be contacted on 01974 298960 or on Facebook as ‘Canolfan Hamdden Caron Leisure Centre’.
