Primary pupils from the Garreg Las area unite to launch special song

Primary school pupils from the Garreg Las area have come together to release a brand-new song covering what makes their area so special.

The song 'Croeso i Fro'r Garreg Las' will be released on 12 June on all digital platforms to mark 50 days until the National Eisteddfod visits the area.

The project has brought together children from three counties – Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, and Carmarthenshire – as they work together to create a unique performance that celebrates the Welsh language, the local communities and the excitement as the national festival approaches.

50 primary schools across the three counties were involved in the project, bringing hundreds of children and young people together to celebrate their area, language and culture.

The song will be released on 12 June, along with a colourful video that was filmed at several iconic locations throughout the area. The pupils travelled to notable sites, including Cardigan, Tenby, St Davids, Pentre Ifan and Drefach Felindre to perform and bring the song to life, adding to a strong sense of place and identity.

The lyrics were composed by the poet Ceri Wyn Jones, with the melody by Einir Dafydd, and the track has been produced by Mei Gwynedd. The video was filmed by Gareth Bull.

Leader of Pembrokeshire County Council, Councillor Tessa Hodgson, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming the National Eisteddfod to Llantood this summer. It's been a pleasure to see young people from the three counties come together to create a special song that celebrates the area, and builds excitement as we look forward to the Eisteddfod. Collaboration across Bro'r Garreg Las has been at the heart of this project.”

Councillor Catrin M S Davies, Ceredigion County Council Cabinet Member responsible for Culture, said: "This song celebrates the Welsh language and the unique character of the whole area – from the coast to the countryside. Ceri Wyn’s lyrics also offer a taste of our history and heritage. There will be an opportunity for the whole of Wales to enjoy our area in August and to hear some of our stories – come along!”

Councillor Glynog Davies, Carmarthenshire County Council Cabinet Member for Education and Welsh Language, said: “It has been a privilege to work with Welsh and English-medium schools across the counties to create this special song. Over 500 children have contributed to it, which is an incredible achievement! It is wonderful to see that the Welsh language and the Eisteddfod belong to everyone.”
