Consultation launched for all members of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities
A Gypsy, Roma and Traveller accommodation assessment has been launched.
If you are a member of the Gypsy, Roma or Traveller community, we encourage you to complete our questionnaire. Your feedback will help us better understand current and future accommodation needs and ensure that services and provision are appropriate and fair.
Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people are an important part of Wales’s history and culture, having lived, worked and travelled here for hundreds of years.
Today, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people are recognised as ethnic groups and are protected by the Equality Act 2010. While some members of these communities live in housing or on permanent sites, others continue to travel as part of their way of life.
Under the Housing (Wales) Act 2014, local authorities must assess and plan for the accommodation needs of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people living in or resorting to their area.
To help meet this duty, we are asking members of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community to share their views and experiences.
Councillor Matthew Vaux Cabinet Member for Partnerships, Housing, Legal and Governance and Public Protection said: “It is essential that we hear directly from members of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities so we can better understand their accommodation needs. This consultation will help ensure that our future plans are fair, inclusive and reflect the experiences of those living within these communities. I would encourage anyone within these communities to take part and share their views.”
All responses will be treated in confidence and will play an important role in shaping future plans.
The consultation will be open till 31 July 2026.
