Tîm Teulu, in collaboration with Penparcau Family Centre, will be attempting to make the longest friendship bracelet in Ceredigion at this year’s Young People’s Play Day Festival. The Festival is a free event being held by Ray Ceredigion on 1 August in the Square Field, Aberaeron.

Tîm Teulu is a family support service which provides support to contribute to the wellbeing of Ceredigion families.

Nicky Sandford, Service Development Officer said, “We decided on trying to make the longest friendship bracelet in Ceredigion this year as we wanted to focus on building young people’s resilience through friendships. Strong friendships have been identified as one of the main factors in supporting young people who experience Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’S) following our recent events. During the Play Day, there will be an interactive space filled with activities in our ‘friendship’ den. There is a warm welcome to all.”

Friendship bracelets are being created at Ceredigion Youth Clubs and Tîm Plant Anabl leading up to the event. Young people are being urged to get together to make bracelets and bring them along to the Play Day.

Nicky continued, “Young people can get involved with the challenge before the Play Day by making a bracelet with their friends and either send it in to us before the event or bring it on the day to see their contribution being part of the entire collection. You could hold a group activity to create the bracelets, tell your friends about it or invite them to join you and make a bracelet on the day. Spread the word to help create the longets friendship bracelet in Ceredigion!”

For anyone who’s unsure on how to start making a friendship bracelet, there are several tutorials available to view online.

Councillor Catrin Miles, Ceredigion County Council’s Member’s Champion for Children and Young people said, “Friendship is important to a person’s wellbeing. By creating a collective friendship bracelet is a wonderful idea for young people to embrace. It provides an opportunity to reflect on the binding together of people in friendship and how it helps each of us define and realise a meaningful life.”
