A new Children and Young People’s Participation Strategy for 2018-2021 was approved in a Cabinet meeting on 6 November 2018.

The strategy outlines six areas of focus, in line with article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The areas of focus are;

• Supporting better Information
• Promoting worthwhile feedback
• Supporting respect
• Supporting non-discrimination
• Promoting experiences
• Supporting better choices

The Cabinet member responsible for Learning Services, Councillor Catrin Miles said, “In supporting the strategy, the Council will now have a focus for the next few years on how to improve the lives of young people in Ceredigion. We want to make sure that children and young people in Ceredigion have the opportunities to grow, and the chance to be heard.”

The implementation of the strategy will ensure that the Council meets the National Participation Standards for Children and Young People in Wales. The strategy will also help children and young people in Ceredigion to have access to opportunities to have their voices heard. The strategy has been designed with young people, for the benefit of young people and developed by Ceredigion Youth Service.
