The Active Young People team and Young Ambassadors from Ceredigion Schools have been busy preparing resources for activities and skills that children can do at home during lockdown.

The activities are available as videos that have been shared on @CeredigionActif social media sites, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

Elen James, Corporate Lead Officer for Porth Cymorth Cynnar, Community Wellbeing & Learning said: “We aim to encourage Ceredigion pupils to be active every day. Being active not only improves physical health and fitness but also has a really positive effect on mental wellbeing. Many of these activities can be done inside or outside with limited equipment. We are really pleased that a number of our experienced Young Ambassadors are being proactive and getting involved in producing videos to encourage others to get active.”

Schools can join in through Microsoft Teams through the Hwb website so that Ceredigion school pupils can be active every day.

The activities consist of:

Filmed lessons that children can follow. These are short but intensive workouts that include physical activity to improve fitness and wellbeing and also foundation skills to improve concentration and coordination. The recommendation is that this is carried out at least twice a week. The first lesson can be viewed on our Ceredigion Actif YouTube station here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taLO-5nTp-o&list=PL9UGnyrcd3cK9q_Q4Tx2QaFjm2DnWdt_h

These will be released weekly and are appropriate for Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2.

Quick Fire Games. These are short activities or games that you can set up at home. There are poster and video explanations to view.

Information on how to set up Fit in 5. Fit in 5 was introduced to Ceredigion Primary Schools to get children active for a short period of time every day. Practice 5 different skills for 5 minutes every day. This is quick to set up and easy to do.

QR Code videos of foundation skills. These have been embedded into existing skill cards so that learners can read instructions or view a video before taking part. These can be used on their own or for Fit in 5.

Young Ambassador videos encouraging pupils to get active at home. Short sharp exercises aimed at younger and older pupils.
