Welsh will be the medium of instruction in the foundation phase of Ysgol Bro Pedr from September 2019 onwards. The development follows the approval of the plan by Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet.

No objections were received to the proposal to change the language medium after a statutory notice period. The period ran from 4 February to 3 March 2019.

The change of medium supports the Ceredigion Welsh in Education Strategic Plan 2017 – 2020 by ensuring that more seven year olds are educated in Welsh.

Councillor Catrin Miles is the Cabinet member responsible for Learning Services. She said, “I’m glad that we have been able to take this decision after receiving no opposition to the proposal. This is a positive and important step in promoting Welsh language education and use in Ceredigion.”

The change of medium supports the Well-Being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 by contributing to the promotion and conservation of the culture and heritage of Wales and the Welsh language.

The proposal also supports the council’s aim by being committed to support the Welsh Government's aim having a million people using the Welsh language by 2050.
