A series of community engagement events will be held across Ceredigion to support any local organisation including community groups and small businesses to upload their details onto an online Wales-wide directory. Once established, Ceredigion residents will be able to find a wealth of resources and opportunities in the county.
Ceredigion County Council have adopted Dewis Cymru as their online directory of choice to help local organisations and groups in Ceredigion find a new audience for the events and opportunities they provide. Any organisations can upload their details onto the Dewis Cymru website, including charities, sport clubs, community groups and small businesses. Once on the website, local residents can search the directory and find the opportunities available in their area.
Even individuals and the smallest of community groups can upload their information onto Dewis Cymru to let Ceredigion residents know the opportunities, resources or services they offer. It is hoped that once established, Dewis Cymru will be widely used by Ceredigion residents to find the opportunities they want or the services they need.
Ceredigion County Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, Councillor Ray Quant MBE said, “Dewis Cymru offers local groups and organisations of every kind the opportunity to find their audience and support their communities. If a youth club meets during the week; if a chapel holds a regular coffee morning; if a person runs a small business in the county or a group of friends arrange rambling or hiking trips in the area, they can get the word out about the good work that they do in the community. From that, they can find people who are interested in attending or making use of a service. This is a real opportunity to bring communities and like-minded people together.”
The information events about Dewis Cymru will be held in:
• Aberystwyth Library on 9 February 1:00pm – 5:00pm
• Aberaeron Library on 16 February 10:00am – 5:00pm
• Victoria Hall, Lampeter on 23 February 10:00am - 5:00pm
• Guildhall, Cardigan on 28 February 10:00am – 5:00pm
The Council itself is currently training staff to upload Council services onto Dewis Cymru. Dewis Cymru will play a key role in the Council’s social care transformation as it will help residents to help themselves through finding resources already in the area that can support people’s wellbeing.
