Who are the most knowledgeable sports team in Ceredigion? Discovering the answer is the aim of a new quiz called “Ar Eich Marciau”. Cered and Ceredigion Actif would like people to form a team to represent their club in a brand new quiz competition for the county’s sports clubs called “Ar Eich Marciau” (Welsh for “On Your Marks”).

Ar Eich Marciau is a bilingual quiz competition which offers a rare opportunity to bring clubs from various sports together to socialise and to receive useful information from Cered and Ceredigion Actif. The quiz is also an opportunity to promote the Welsh language and bilingualism amongst sports clubs in a light-hearted and inclusive way.

Ar Eich Marciau will take place over three local rounds in October for north, central and south Ceredigion and then the final round will be held in a central location in November:

  • Central Ceredigion Round – Aberaeron Rugby Club – 11 October, 7.30 p.m.
  • South Ceredigion Round – Aberteifi Bowling Club – 18 October, 7.30 p.m.
  • North Ceredigion Round – Aberystwyth Rugby Club – 25 October, 7.30 p.m.
  • Final Round – Aberaeron Rugby Club – 1 November, 7.30 p.m.

Non Davies, Cered Manager said: “This is a great opportunity to bring sports clubs from different disciplines together to socialise, have fun and win prizes of course! We look forward to discovering which sport will come out on top and win the Ar Eich Marciau trophy this year!”

To take part, clubs will need to form a team of three and contact Cered on 01545 572 350 or cered@ceredigion.gov.uk to register free of charge by Friday 4 October.

The quiz is aimed at adults and there is a warm welcome for clubs from all sports as the questions are very varied. Clubs are allowed to register more than one team.
