Community film celebrating Ceredigion's connection with the sea to launch at Nature Festival

A new community film celebrating Ceredigion's coastline and highlighting the importance of protecting the marine environment will be launched at the Ceredigion Nature Festival on Saturday 11 July.

Diolch, Môr – Thank You, Sea has been produced by Parents for Future Ceredigion, a local branch of the national organisation working to secure a safer and fairer future for children. The film brings together the voices, experiences and memories of local people from across the county, exploring what the sea means to them and why it is important to protect it for future generations.

Inspired by a public screening of Ocean with David Attenborough in Aberystwyth earlier this year, the project invited people from across Ceredigion to share footage and personal stories celebrating their connection with the sea and coastal environment.

More than 30 people contributed to the project. Produced and edited by Steve Buckley, and supported through funding from the Ceredigion Local Nature Partnership, the film follows water on its journey from source to sea while highlighting the need to protect marine habitats from pollution.

The film includes music from Y Pipydd Coch by Cerys Hafana, taken from her album Edyf and used with her generous permission. The Welsh translation was provided by Mari Ellis-Dunning.

Gill Clark, Coordinator of the Ceredigion Local Nature Partnership, said:

"We're delighted to have supported this project. It's a powerful reminder of how much the sea means to our communities and why we all have a role in protecting it."

Councillor Clive Davies, Ceredigion County Council Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Carbon Management:

"It's inspiring to see local people coming together to celebrate and protect the environment that makes Ceredigion so special. This film highlights the strong connection our communities have with the sea and reminds us of the importance of caring for our natural environment for future generations. I congratulate Parents for Future Ceredigion on this fantastic community project and wish them every success with its launch at the Ceredigion Nature Festival."

Cathy Cole, Film Coordinator for the project, said:

"We hope that this film will carry meaning for people across mid-Wales, revealing some of the beauty of life beneath the waves as well as the importance of our beaches and seascapes to so many of us in Ceredigion."

Diolch, Môr – Thank You, Sea will premiere at the Ceredigion Nature Festival on Saturday 11 July and will subsequently be available to watch online via Natur Ceredigion and the Parents for Future Ceredigion YouTube channel.
