Residents’ views sought on changes to Ceredigion’s Household Waste Sites

Following the Council’s decision in 2024 to close one of our Household Waste Sites and review the opening hours at the other sites, Ceredigion County Council is consulting on proposals and is seeking your views.

The waste industry is constantly changing, as is waste legislation. For Ceredigion to meet the current needs, and to be better prepared to meet the needs in the future, the facilities at the county’s Household Waste Sites may need to be improved, and the sites may need to be extended to accommodate such improvements. None of the sites are ideal for meeting future needs, and all four sites have limited opportunities for expansion.

Work will shortly be commencing to consider options for the Council’s future waste services including household waste sites. In the meantime, the Council has had to make difficult decisions to manage its available budget and avoid higher Council Tax increases.

Councillor Shelley Childs, Ceredigion Cabinet Member for Highways and Environmental Services, said: "With four sites currently provided in the county, Ceredigion has one of the highest ratios of Household Waste Sites per person in Wales, and the ongoing pressure on Council budgets means that it is no longer possible to keep all four Household Waste Sites open. Most of the materials accepted at the Household Waste Sites can be disposed of legally and safely in other ways”.

“The Council believes that suspending the use of one site would have the least overall impact on Ceredigion residents; however, we welcome people’s views on this. We propose to keep the opening hours at the remaining Household Waste Sites unchanged and welcome people’s views on this proposal as well”.

“Change is never easy, but we have a responsibility to balance service provision and costs while we review the longer-term needs of the service”.

The public consultation will ask residents how often they use their current Household Waste Site and which household waste site they use. The public consultation closes on 04 August 2025 and can be accessed from this link.
