Local Supported Employment project helps Ceredigion resident secure a rewarding job

Aeron, 44 from Tregaron, joined the ‘Local Supported Employment’ (LSE) project in 2024 after being made redundant from his employment of 20 years.

Aeron was allocated Misha, an Employability Support Mentor for LSE. Following informal discussions with Misha, they found that Aeron would like to work a job in a similar field to his previous job, in which he could help while being part of a valued team to make his skills stronger and socialist with people, which is something he enjoys very much. Rather than a full-time job, Aeron wanted to find a workplace that could fit around his personal life.

As the LSE project is tailored to support people with Autism and/or Learning Difficulties, Misha gave additional support to help Aeron in areas he didn’t feel comfortable, such as engaging with employers and completing forms.

At Penparcau Hub, Aeron successfully enrolled onto a 3 month ‘Paid Work Experience’ (PWO) Scheme where he fit in well with the team and became a valued staff member.

After the PWO scheme came to an end, his mentor Misha started to approach new, similar employers to help find Aeron a similar job with this newly acquired experience. Soon thereafter, Aeron started working at CK’s Waun Fawr, Aberystwyth, where he continues to work happily months later.

LSE Mentor Misha said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Aeron and support to get work. He is very patient and understanding and has excellent communication. When I see him at work, he looks comfortable and happy. Aeron is a social person, with a lot of strengths. It has been extremely rewarding to see him enter back into employment. CK’s Aberystwyth have been great to work with, and I have had a very positive experience when dealing with Management.”

Councillor Wyn Thomas is the Cabinet Member responsible for Lifelong Learning and Skills. He said: “Aeron shows us how the right support can impact positively on people’s lives. Well done, Aeron! I’m thrilled that you have been able to find employment that you enjoy that also fits your personal life. Best of luck to you for the future.”
