Have your say: shape Ceredigion’s Corporate Enforcement Policy
A consultation has opened to gather public views on the Corporate Enforcement Policy by Ceredigion County Council.
The draft policy sets out how the Council will carry out enforcement fairly, consistently, and in line with national standards. It explains the principles behind enforcement decisions, including how actions are determined to ensure fairness and proportionality, when prosecution or other sanctions may be used, and how compliance will be supported while protecting public safety and wellbeing.
The policy also provides clear guidance on the factors considered, such as risks to public health, previous offences, and the seriousness of any harm, when deciding enforcement action. Appendices are included on specialist areas, including Food Law, Planning, Private Housing Standards and School Attendance Compliance, which supplement the overarching corporate policy.
Councillor Matthew Vaux, Ceredigion Cabinet Member for Partnerships, Housing, Legal and Governance and Public Protection said: “Enforcement plays a vital role in keeping our communities safe and making sure the law is followed. It’s also important in maintaining a level playing field for all businesses in Ceredigion. Those who cut corners should not gain an advantage over legitimate businesses that comply with regulatory standards.”

The consultation is open now and will close on 20 January 2026. Your feedback will help shape the final policy before it is considered by Cabinet in March 2026.
