A technology company has chosen West Wales as the centre of operations for its global customer base, helping to strengthen the Welsh tech sector and opening up opportunities for local people in Ceredigion.

Delineate, a research technology company pioneering new ways of gathering consumer insights – and whose customers include major food and drink brands, will be based in Ceredigion.

Transforming Towns, a Welsh Government initiative administrated by Cynnal y Cardi in Ceredigion County Council, helped support capital investment to regenerate a number of towns across Mid Wales including Delineate to secure their new office buildings. The office in Llandysul will house 50 employees working across a range of roles in the business, whose innovative approach to conducting surveys helps brands understand their customers and the world in real-time to make better business decisions.

Wales, and more specifically Ceredigion, is making a significant contribution to the UK’s tech industry and fast becoming a centre for technology growth and excellence. Delineate is keen to play a part in that future success, attracting high-value industries and helping local economies flourish through supporting the Welsh Government’s aims to create a more prosperous economy.

The rollout of superfast broadband in the area has enabled businesses to choose Ceredigion as a location by bringing fast, reliable connectivity that boosts business capabilities.

The ambition of Ceredigion County Council’s own economic strategy is to give young people who wish to stay and develop a career in Ceredigion the opportunities to do so which is in-line with the ARFOR support that Delineate has received via the Council.

ARFOR is a Welsh Government funded programme operating in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Gwynedd and Anglesey Councils to use entrepreneurship and economic development to support the heartlands of the Welsh language and, thus, maintain the language to prosper through economic interventions.

A major part of Delineate’s business strategy is to have a ‘Wales first’ recruitment policy, with all new hires proactively being sourced in Wales, which will naturally bring more Welsh speakers into the company. Around 60% of the team are Welsh speakers, and learning opportunities are offered to individuals who are not Welsh speakers.

A Council spokesperson said: “We welcome the news of another innovative business located in Ceredigion. As a county with two universities and work underway to further develop our digital infrastructure, Ceredigion offers opportunity to businesses like Delineate. It also aligns with our Economic Strategy to work collaboratively towards achieving strong, sustainable and more resilient economic growth. Not only is this good news for businesses, but also for young people in the area who, without these growth opportunities, could face very different futures. We look forward to learning more about the business, why they are proud to be in West Wales, and how they intend to invest further within their community.”
