The Council has no immediate concerns that RAAC, or reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete, has been used to construct school buildings in Ceredigion. However, to reassure parents/guardians, the Council will be conducting further detailed assessments on schools which were built or extended between the 1950/60s and 1990 to fully clarify the situation. We will not be conducting assessments on schools built before 1950, nor new schools. The health and safety of learners, teachers, staff, parents/guardians and carers is a priority for us as a county. Therefore, in line with other Local Authorities in Wales, we will be working closely with Welsh Government over the coming weeks to fully evaluate the situation in Ceredigion.
