Individuals, groups, businesses and organisations within Ceredigion still have time to submit innovative ideas to the Cynnal y Cardi team.

Do you have a community-led idea that could make a real difference to the lives of people living and working in Ceredigion? The Cynnal y Cardi Local Action Group (LAG), which implements the LEADER scheme in Ceredigion, identified a number of priorities and wants to hear your ideas.

There are a number of priorities including how we make Ceredigion a distinctive place where people want to live, work and visit; how we can support Ceredigion’s market town making them vibrant places to visit; and how we can make more of Ceredigion’s cultural assets and traditions so that we can support our local communities and economy. Providing opportunities for young people in particular is also key and we want to create a culture of entrepreneurship, providing new opportunities for people to realise their ambitions of living and working in Ceredigion.

Covid-19 has made 2020 a tough year for the county. Cynnal y Cardi, which is administered by Ceredigion County Council, now wants to build on the opportunities that have arisen from Covid-19, through strengthening and supporting local communities, helping to explore new approaches; utilising digital technology opportunities and with the increased support for local suppliers, finding a way forward to strengthen local resilience.

Working towards a low carbon future is another priority for the Cynnal y Cardi LAG. To achieve this do you have any ideas in particular how the county can make, use, reuse, remake, and recycle more!

Councillor Rhodri Evans, the Cabinet member with responsibility for Economy and Regeneration said, “It has been a very difficult period for the county as a whole due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. There have been many challenges, but we now want to build on the positives and the opportunities that have emerged to make our communities, businesses and Ceredigion even more resilient for the future.

Over the past 5 years, the Cynnal y Cardi Local Action Group (LAG), has supported around 50 rural community led ideas totalling £1,368,000. This has meant piloting new activity and learning the important lessons from what has been delivered; undertaking research work through feasibility studies and scoping studies; providing training and mentoring for individuals to acquire new skills. This is now your opportunity to bring further ideas forward.

LEADER, which aims to support innovative responses to opportunities or challenges faced by rural communities, is supported through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.

The closing date for submitting your expressions of interest is the 18th January 2021. Submissions are welcome in Welsh or English. Contact the team to discuss your ideas. For more information on the priorities for future support go to Cynnal y Cardi’s website, email cynnalycardi@ceredigion.gov.uk or call 01545 570881.
