Work has started on the construction of a new shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians between Bow Street and the Aberystwyth University IBERS campus at Plas Gogerddan. The work is being undertaken by a local contractor.

The work is grant funded by the Welsh Government with match funding provided by Ceredigion County Council and is expected to be completed by the end of March. Wildlife habitat areas and replanting have been incorporated within the scheme. Once completed, this section of the path will provide a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists between Plas Gogerddan and the Transport for Wales project in Bow Street. This will provide a new public transport interchange and railway station at Bow Street and is scheduled to open in Spring 2020.

Councillor Dafydd Edwards, the Cabinet member responsible for Highways and Environmental Services said, “As a council, one of our main priorities is ensuring the safety of the public and with this new path it will increase safety and accessibility. This new path will increase cycle usage in the area.”

The council will continue to work in partnership with Aberystwyth University on the Phase 2 proposals to progress the shared use path towards Penrhyncoch in the next financial year.
