In a Cabinet meeting on 6 March, the Ceredigion County Council Cabinet agreed to support the National Eisteddfod which is coming to the county in 2020.

It was decided to reserve money for a one-off fund to secure a sound infrastructure to support a successful Eisteddfod in Ceredigion.

Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn, Council Leader and the Cabinet Member responsible for the Welsh Language said, “We are delighted to be able to support the National Eisteddfod in Ceredigion in 2020. The National Eisteddfod is one of the great festivals of the world and we are eager not only to support the valuable and unique culture of Wales, but also to offer a real boost to our economy by bringing tens of thousands of people to Ceredigion.”

In order to support the Eisteddfod, the Council will need to spend money before and during the festival to carry out tasks such as preparing the infrastructure, marketing and maintaining a presence on the Eisteddfod Maes.

The Council will be working to ensure sponsorship grants and support from partners and local businesses to contribute towards supporting the Eisteddfod. The decision was made to maximise the economic benefits of the County of Ceredigion and promote the Welsh language.
