In a meeting on 08 May 2018, the Council’s Cabinet approved a new Scrap Metal Policy. The policy ensures accessibility and clarity to those seeking to obtain a Collectors or a Site Licence from the Council.

The Council’s main concern regarding scrap metal is collectors who often visit remote communities targeting farmers, small rural businesses and historical buildings including churches. A register of legitimate scrap metal dealers in Wales can be found on National Resources Wales’ website.

Councillor Rhodri Evans, the Cabinet Member responsible for Lifestyle Services said, “It’s important that the Council has a consistent approach to regulating scrap metal. Legitimate and law abiding scrap metal dealers need to be supported while we do everything we can to reduce the theft of scrap metal.”

Approving the policy supports the Council’s corporate priority to protecting environmental and community resilience.
