Work to hold Welsh Language Coding Clubs will begin after receiving Ceredigion County Council Cabinet approval.
The decision follows the awarding of a Cymraeg 2050 grant from the Welsh Government to CERED – the Ceredigion Welsh Language Initiative for a project that will strive to encourage the use of the Welsh Language in the community.
CERED’s aim is to hold Coding Clubs through the medium of Welsh in partnership with Code Club Wales. Code Club Wales is a part of the Rasberry Pi Foundation. The project will provide opportunities for children and young people to learn about coding through the Welsh Language. The project aims to target children and young people who do not usually take part in Welsh-medium activities and motivate them to use their Welsh in new and very different ways in a field that interests them.
The Leader of the Council, and the Cabinet member responsible for the Welsh language, Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn, “Cered has done great work to secure the grant for this innovative project. This project will weave Welsh and leading technology together and show young people that Welsh is a modern language which looks to the future.”
This project supports the Council’s strategic corporate aim to promote and facilitate the distinct and vibrant bilingual culture and identity of Ceredigion. The Cabinet decision was made on 23 January.
