The bright talents and skills of Ceredigion’s youth has brought the county to the second place in the league of successes at this year’s 2018 Brecon and Radnorshire Urdd National Eisteddfod held on the Royal Welsh showground, Builth Wells, between 28 May and 2 June.

Competitors, teachers and coaches alike have been working hard again this year, and reaped the fruits of their labour as the county’s youth succeeded nationally in a wide range of competitions. Ceredigion had 52 first medals, 46 second medals, and 39 third medals, making a total of 137, only 2 places away from Snowdonia who lead the way this year.

Pupils from across the county demonstrated their skill as they experienced a number of successes in homework and arts and crafts competitions before the week of the festival. During the Eisteddfod week, exceptional talent was shown by Ceredigion’s youth in competitions such as singing, reciting and dancing.

Leader of Ceredigion County Council, Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn, said: “Our youth have once again shown their skills and talents to the nation both on and off stage in this year’s Urdd National Eisteddfod. Their diligent and hard-working teachers and coaches have taken of their time to develop these young people to try their best in the various competitions. Finishing a close second in the results table is a tremendous achievement, and it all starts locally within Ceredigion. We are all extremely proud of the perseverance and dedication of everyone who took part in any way during the week. Congratulations and well done to everyone!”

All the results can be seen on the Urdd website.
