Conservation and Wildlife
At Ceredigion County Council we are dedicated to managing Local Nature Reserves, marine areas and green spaces. We believe that conserving biodiversity is an integral component of sustainable development.
We work in partnership with other environmental organisations and the community to protect Ceredigion’s wildlife sites, habitats and species.
Local Nature Reserves and Wildlife Sites
Ceredigion has three Local Nature Reserves. These sites have been designated because of their importance for wildlife and their value for community enjoyment and education.
The County Council also manages a small number of undesignated Wildlife Sites for biodiversity and public enjoyment of biodiversity.

Marine SAC's and Heritage Coast
Special Areas of Conservation are chosen because they have some of the best examples in Europe of special wildlife areas, creatures and plants that need looking after.
There are three SAC designations adjacent to the Ceredigion coastline: Cardigan Bay SAC; West Wales Marine SAC; and Penllyn a’r Sarnau SAC.
The Heritage Coast is an area managed for wildlife, landscape, tourism and conservation.

Trees, Hedgerows and Woodlands
Trees, woodlands and hedgerows and are vital for sustaining wildlife habitats and creating attractive landscapes. It is important that we protect these assets in private ownership and manage the trees within our own ownership in a sustainable way.

Ash dieback is a devastating disease of ash trees, caused by a fungus. Many species are known to be associated with ash trees and some are entirely restricted to it.
ADB will also affect the environment, economy, landowners and the landscape.
