Ceredigion County Council has 5 Overview and Scrutiny Committees:
Prior to the Local Elections in May 2012 Members of the Overview and Scrutiny Co-ordinating Committee reviewed the Overview and Scrutiny structure of the Council in the context of a number of factors which impact on the way in which the Council operates and provides services including the recommendations contained in the Wales Audit Office Corporate Assessment Letter of August 2011. The old structure comprised of one Co-ordinating and six subject Overview and Scrutiny Committees which mirrored the six Cabinet portfolios. The new structure comprises of 5 thematic Overview and Scrutiny Committees, namely:
Scrutiny Committees are politically balanced to reflect as far as possible the political composition of the Council.
The key challenge for Scrutiny is to be able to demonstrate real improvements to services and the performance of the Council.
Meetings of the Overview and Scrutiny Committees are open to the public and are mostly held in Penmorfa, Aberaeron at 9.30am, however they are sometimes held at other locations depending on the topic of scrutiny. If the committee needs to discuss confidential information regarding an item on the agenda, the press and members of the public will be asked to leave the room during the discussion.
In order to encourage those who live and work in the County to become more involved in the Scrutiny process in Ceredigion, we encourage members of the public to suggest issues for Scrutiny. If you wish to put forward a suggestion for a topic to be scrutinised, please contact us and you will receive a response from the Overview and Scrutiny Officer. . In addition, if you would like to present your views on a upcoming item on the Overview and Scrutiny agenda you must submit a written request to speak to the Scrutiny team as soon as possible and no later than midday two working days before the Committee. A written request can be made by post or by e-mail to the address below. Please refer to the Overview and Scrutiny Public Engagement Protocol for further information.
