For the first time in Wales, including Ceredigion, eligible voters will need to show accepted form of photo ID to vote in some elections, including the Police and Crime Commissioner Election on 02 May 2024.

The full list of accepted forms of ID is available on our website: www.ceredigion.gov.uk/your-council/voting-elections/voter-id/

Voters will be able to use expired photo ID if they are still recognisable from the photo. If you do not have any form of accepted ID you can apply for a free ID, known as the Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline to apply for a free voter ID is 5:00pm on Wednesday, 24 April.

The deadline to register to vote for the Police and Crime Commissioner Election is midnight on Tuesday 16 April. You can apply online www.ceredigion.gov.uk/your-council/voting-elections/register-to-vote/. If you have recently moved to a new home, you will need to register in your new home.

If you do not wish to vote in person, you can register for a postal vote until 5:00pm on Wednesday 17 April and before 5:00pm on Wednesday 24 April to vote by proxy. You can now apply online for a postal or proxy vote by visiting www.ceredigion.gov.uk/your-council/voting-elections/voting-in-uk-parliamentary-and-police-and-crime-commissioner-elections/

Eifion Evans is the Returning Officer for Ceredigion County Council. He said: “We don’t want anyone to risk losing their right to vote here in Ceredigion so I’m encouraging our residents to familiarise themselves with the changes that the voter ID requirement brings, including what type of ID is accepted. Residents who do not have a suitable form of ID can apply for the Voter Authority Certificate online or by getting in touch with our electoral services team. This change will come into affect for the Police and Crime Commissioner election this May.”
