At an Ethics and Standards Committee meeting held on 4 December 2024, John Weston was given recognition for 6 years of service to the Committee. His term of office came to an end on 22 February 2024 following his role as Vice-Chair on the Committee.

John Weston was a Town Planner, and was then employed by the Wales Audit Office as a performance auditor, retiring in 2013; undertaking audits within Councils in Wales, Welsh Police and Fire and Rescue services. He was appointed as an Independent Member of the Ethics and Standards Committee in February 2018, and elected as Vice-Chair in May 2021. 

In his place, a new independent member has been appointed, Llinos James.

Councillor Bryan Davies, Leader of Ceredigion County Council, said: “The Council has benefitted from years of advice and considerations provided by John. We welcome the new members of the committee and their input to the function of the Committee will be greatly appreciated, so we wish Llinos a warm welcome.”

The Chair of the Ethics and Standards Committee, independent member Caryl Davies, said: “I would like to express my appreciation to John for his commitment to promoting high standards of behaviour within the Council and beyond, and for the contribution he has made to the work of the Ethics and Standards Committee during his time on the Committee.”

Standards Committees of local authorities exist to do all that is possible to promote and safeguard the standards that the public rightly expect from their elected representatives.

The Committee is made up of five independent members, two County Councillors and two Town/Community Councillors.
