In line with BT's (British Telecommunications) involvement in the broader industry movement towards digital landlines by 2025, BT are hosting events for customers to discuss any question or concerns about the network changes.

Along with other providers, BT are making the switch from the analogue network that most home phones work on today, and are moving to what is referred to as ‘Digital Voice’. Over the next few years, the current network will not be fit for purpose as it will not be able to keep up with the demands of modern requirements.

These upgrades do not happen often, and they are necessary to ensure that everybody stays connected now, and into the future. The new service offers lots of benefits and improved features over the existing system, such as being better equipped to block spam callers.

For most people, Digital phone lines will have no impact on how home phones are usually used. The service, price plan and bills will all stay the same. It is anticipated that providers will be in touch when it’s time to switch over, with simple instructions on what to do next.

Three events have been confirmed by BT for Ceredigion and do not require booking. They will have a broadband crew who can provide more information on Digital Voice and what it means for customers. Details below:

  • Pop up event - 19 April; 10:00-14:00 Aberystwyth Library, Town Hall Canolfan Alun R. Edwards Queen’s Square, Aberystwyth, SY23 2EB
  • Pop up event - 25 and 26 April; 10:00-16:00 Cardigan Library, Morgan Street, Cardigan, SA43 1DG
  • Engagement Vehicle - 29 April; 10:00-16:00 Co-op Lampeter, Lower Bridge Street, Lampeter, SA48 7AF

A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson said: “Everyone with any questions on the switch from landline to digital should try to attend these engagement events. It’s great that they have been set up specifically for Ceredigion residents and businesses. BT staff will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns that people may have regarding the switch, including timeframes, and what residents need to do to ensure their services remain unaffected.”
