On 22 February 2024, Aled Lewis, Ceredigion’s former Member of UK Youth Parliament was invited to present an award at this year’s Wales Youth Work Excellence Awards held in Venue Cymru, Llandudno.

The Youth Work Excellence Awards are an opportunity to recognise and celebrate outstanding youth work projects, youth workers and those involved in Youth Work across Wales.

The award saw nine categories of outstanding youth work practice recognised. The event was hosted by Radio Presenter and DJ Mirain Iwerydd.

During Aled’s time as Ceredigion’s UK MYP and a member of Ceredigion Youth Council, he has been involved with various engagement work both at a local and national level. In October 2023, Aled was asked to sit on Welsh Government’s Youth Work Excellence Awards Shortlisting Panel as a judge, and to represent young people. Subsequently, having impressed Welsh Government officers, Aled was then invited to present an award at the Youth Work Excellence Awards this year.

Aled, a Year 13 pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron was tasked with presenting the award for the ‘Rising Star’ category at the awards.

Gwion Bowen, Senior Children and Young People’s Participation Officer for Ceredigion County Council said: “It was a great experience to attend the Wales Youth Work Excellence Awards this year, to see the excellent youth work happening across Wales. Aled was selected to present an award, and contributed a fantastic speech to introduce the good work delivered by the winners and finalists in this year’s ‘Rising Star’ category.”

Aled Lewis, former Ceredigion UK MYP said: “I enjoyed the opportunity to present at this year’s event, and being part of the shortlisting panels beforehand. It was a great evening of celebration, and it was a chance to highlight good practice with young people across Wales.”
