Ceredigion Library Service are pleased to take part in the Ready, Set, Read reading challenge for children this year.
The main theme of this year’s Challenge is games and sports, keeping fit and exercising the body and the mind. The Challenge will begin on Saturday 08 July 2023, and will continue until the end of September.
Children between 4 and 11 years old can join the Summer Reading Challenge by visiting our libraries in Ceredigion, or on-line through the Reading Challenge’s website, and become members of an amazing team of young readers across the country that are taking part in this year’s Challenge.
By taking part in Ready, Set, Read, children will receive free material from the Library, and will be encouraged to keep their bodies and minds active through the Summer holidays by developing reading skills, exploring new reading materials, discovering new interests and maintaining and improving their confidence in reading over the Summer, ensuring that they are ready for school once again in September.
This year, Ceredigion Library Service is also so excited to be working in partnership with Ceredigion Actif to provide free sports equipment to borrow from our libraries. As well as balance bikes and games packs, children will be able to borrow tennis equipment, skipping ropes, cricket equipment, baseballs, footballs and rugby balls from their local Library – and all for free.
Councillor Catrin M S Davies, Ceredigion County Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Customer Services, said: “It’s brilliant to see our Library Service taking part in a national challenge – Ready, Set, Read. The challenge will show everyone that there is an endless store of books available to entertain children and young people during the summer and to possibly keep them in the shade when the sun is too hot. This is another activity by the Service which provides a variety of opportunities to children and young people in Ceredigion. Through the local library, you will find an incredible stock of fascinating books to read and there is plenty of sport resources and games to loan too. I would encourage every parent/guardian to visit their local library with their child to see what’s available for all ages.”
