On Saturday 21 October 2023, a group of Ceredigion’s Fostering Families gathered at Canolfan Steffan Community Support Base in Lampeter to take part in a pottery painting activity with Pot-Sian.

The activity was arranged by the Foster Wales Ceredigion Team as part of a programme of monthly activities organised for Fostering Families in Ceredigion.

The group had the opportunity to paint a variety of items including mugs, plates and animal figurines and they made the most of the opportunity to show off their creativity.

This event was part of a schedule of activities specifically for foster carers, their children and the children they look after, providing an opportunity for the whole fostering family to take part in an activity together and to recognise the invaluable role each member of the family plays in supporting vulnerable looked after children in Ceredigion.

Fiona, a foster carer with Foster Wales Ceredigion for 13 years said: “We all enjoyed the pottery session very much and are looking forward to seeing the final products. We also had a fantastic day at the Gwersyll yr Urdd Llangrannog, where everyone had the opportunity to try a wide range of activities”.

Sandra Jones, Foster Wales Ceredigion Team Manager, said: “We wanted to offer our amazing fostering families the chance to take part in a variety of activities for the whole family to enjoy together and give them an opportunity to meet up with other fostering families in Ceredigion. What’s great about these activities is that they are open to all Ceredigion Fostering Families, including our family and friends carers who are often not recognised in the same way as mainstream foster carers.”

Ceredigion fostering families have already enjoyed some great activities this year including a bushcraft taster day, outdoor activity days and mini-beast safari. They are already looking forward to the rest of the scheduled activities which include a visit to the Pantomime at Aberystwyth Arts Centre in January.

Councillor Alun Williams, Cabinet Member for Through Age Wellbeing, asked: “Could you make a difference to a child’s life? Have you ever considered fostering? If you have a spare bedroom then fostering could be for you. There are many types of fostering, from providing a long-term home to offering just one weekend a month to support a child in need. The Foster Wales Ceredigion team are based locally and have the experience and knowledge to support you through every step of your fostering journey.”
