On 10 July at the annual Road Safety Wales conference, Dawn Davies was awarded a Road Safety Wales Award for her long standing service and commitment as the School Crossing Patrol Officer at St Padarn's Catholic Primary School for over 13 years.
Dawn Davies was nominated for this award by her colleagues in the Road Safety team. Dawn has now stepped down from her position to begin a new chapter in her life.
Kayleigh Tonkins, a member of the Road Safety team said, “A big thank you to Dawn from all her colleagues in the Road Safety team, she has been a pleasure to work with and will be sorely missed by the pupils old and new. This award is just a small recognition to the hard work and dedication she has shown to the safety of the pupils at St Padarns school come rain or shine.”

Councillor Dafydd Edwards, Cabinet member with Highways and Environmental Services said, “Well done to Dawn on this fantastic achievement and the strong commitment she showed over the years in making sure the pupils at St Padarn’s could cross the road safely. The Road Safety Team at Ceredigion County Council is committed to making sure that both adults and children are safe on the roads. They do this by providing a number of courses and run schemes all year round like, Kerbcraft, Mature driver and Biker down – the team are also available to help ensure your child car seats are fitted properly.”
Kayleigh Tonkins, Ceredigion County Council’s Road Safety Officer was also present at the conference to talk about the success of the Mature driver course that has been delivered to drivers who are 65 years old or older for free, thanks to grant funding from Welsh Government. The course give participants the opportunity to learn from the expertise of experienced Road Safety professionals and fully qualified Approved Driving Instructors with each practical drive tailored to the individual’s needs. The course aims to enhance existing skills and knowledge while introducing ideas such as dealing with stressful situations and planning for the future to keep mature drivers driving safely for longer.
Participants don’t need to bring a car to the session as a car will be provided by the instructors.
