Amgueddfa Ceredigion Museum put on a treat for staff on Ceredigion County Council’s Work Welsh programme in the run up to Christmas, welcoming the Council’s learners to a special Welsh-medium tour of some of the museum’s treasures.

These guided tours are part of a new and exciting initiative by the museum in their provision for Welsh-language learners.

More than 20 staff attended the event on 19 December 2023. Ranging from beginners to students studying advanced classes, the staff had a wonderful time, expertly guided around the exhibits by the Museum’s own resident volunteer guide, Barbara Roberts.

Reflecting on the visit, Huw Owen, Ceredigion County Council’s Work Welsh Training Officer, said: “We’re so grateful to Amgueddfa Ceredigion Museum for welcoming us for our Christmas event this year. The tours provided by Barbara are marvellous as they enable learners of all levels of study to come together and experience Welsh outside of the classroom. This is a key part of everyone’s learning journey. The tour brings both the Museum and the language to life.”

Discussing the Museum’s new tours for learners, and the partnership with the Council’s Work Welsh programme, Amanda Partridge, Community Engagement Officer, said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer these Welsh language talks and tours at Amgueddfa Ceredigion Museum. Participants say that learning something of Ceredigion’s history in this way provides a fresh and interesting angle on their Welsh language skills. We are very lucky to have Barbara as an experienced tour guide and skilled Welsh conversation leader.”

Councillor Catrin M S Davies, Ceredigion's Cabinet Member for Culture, added: "The Museum is full of objects that are a record of all sorts of people who lived and worked in Ceredigion over the centuries and it has remarkable art exhibitions, not to mention a lovely atmosphere so it's a great place to visit as a group or class as there are all sorts of treasures to see and discuss. There's always a warm welcome.”

Why not book a tour for your next class or conversation group outing? An exciting new adventure for 2024!
