A public event for residents was held on 02 October 2023 to celebrate International Older Persons Day.

Representatives from diverse sectors came together under one roof at Lampeter Wellbeing Centre, reaffirming their commitment to support and empower older people.

127 people attended where over 40 organisations, including representatives from important sectors such as housing, transport, military, employment, education, and health, were present to show their commitment to the well-being of individuals aged 50 and over in the county.

Some of the key highlights of the event were:

  • Collaboration across sectors: The presence of organisations from housing, transport, military, employment, education, and health underlined the collaborative spirit of the event. It showed that by working together, we can provide comprehensive support to our older population.
  • Expert insights: Attendees had the privilege of talking with professionals in various fields. From discussions on accessible housing to employment opportunities for older people, the event provided a wealth of information.
  • Influential guests: The event received recognition with the attendance of the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales and local Councillors. Their presence affirmed the importance of creating age-friendly communities.
  • Age-friendly commitment: Ceredigion County Council reaffirmed its commitment to being an age-friendly county. The event served as a platform to showcase the initiatives and programs aimed at improving the quality of life for older residents across the county.

Councillor Alun Williams, Older Person’s Champion said: "Older people are increasingly living longer and more healthily than previous generations. They want to remain in their own homes and live as independently as possible for as long as possible. So it’s important that services are now tailored to fit that aspiration. For a healthier old age, research shows the importance of staying physically active, being socially engaged and eating healthily. And there’s no better place to do all those things than Ceredigion.”

Ceredigion Actif and Ceredigion Carers and Community Support Team would like to thank all those who attended and helped to make the event a success.
