All six golf courses in Ceredigion will remain closed until 1 June 2020.

This comes following an announcement by the Welsh Government to allow golf clubs to reopen from Monday 18 May 2020, at their own discretion.

However, Ceredigion County Council would like to thank the Executive Committees of all six golf clubs in Ceredigion for their co-operation in delaying their plans to reopen.

These golf clubs include Aberystwyth Golf Club, Borth and Ynyslas Golf Club, Cardigan Golf Club, Cilgwyn Golf Club, Cwmrhydneuadd Golf Club and Penrhos Golf Club.

The reason for this is to minimise any unnecessary travel in and around the county over the next two weeks.

Lockdown measures remain in Wales, unlike England where travel restrictions have been relaxed, and Ceredigion has already seen an increase in visitors venturing to the county to enjoy our local countryside and beaches.

Ceredigion has one of the largest percentage of older population in the country, as well as an additional 2,500 who have been instructed to be on the Government’s Shielding List. Therefore, the desire to travel during the bank holiday weekend at the end of the month is of particular concern to us.

It was initially reported that Ceredigion should prepare for 60,000 infections and 600 deaths due to the coronavirus. To date, we have contained the infection rate to under 40, and we are now one of the lowest affected areas in mainland Britain.

We need to keep doing what we’ve been doing so far, by working together to stay home and save lives.
