The new Ceredigion Carers Fund was launched on 30 November in a Carers Rights Day event in the Old College in Aberystwyth. The Ceredigion Carers Fund provides funds for Carers to pay for something that will improve their health and wellbeing.
Applications have already been submitted and are being taken on a first come first serve basis. More applications are being welcomed at the moment.
Carers provide unpaid care by looking after a family member, friend or partner who is ill, frail, disabled or struggling with mental health, drugs or alcohol.
Ceredigion County Council’s Carers Champion, Councillor Catherine Hughes said, “Caring for a loved one can take its toll on your health and wellbeing. If you care for someone who lives in Ceredigion, the Carers Fund may be able to provide a small sum of money to help you to pay for something that will improve your health and wellbeing. You are providing a very important service, and I am delighted that the fund has been set up to help Carers in Ceredigion.”
Over 100 people came to the Ceredigion Carers Right’s Day event, which was hosted by the Carer’s Unit and partners. There were over 30 stands providing information and advice about different support organisations and services in Ceredigion for Carers and the people they care for. Alongside the information stands, Hywel Dda Health Board and Borth Pharmacy carried out flu jabs throughout the day. A number of workshops were held to help Carers in their role.
One person who attended the event said, “A big thank you for making this day possible. I am learning with so much information, advice and things seem a lot clearer and do-able.”
The Carers Information Service offers information and advice tailored to the individual Carer and their circumstances.
