The Council is welcoming responses to a recently launched consultation looking into the use and future of the Rhydeinon Household Waste Site.

Ceredigion County Council currently provides four Household Waste Sites. The Household Waste Site near Aberystwyth serves the North of the county and the site near Cardigan serves the South. The Rhydeinon Household Waste Site is one of two sites that serve the middle of the county.

Councillor Dafydd Edwards, Cabinet Portfolio Member for Highways and Environmental Services explained, “The Household Waste Sites cost the Council around £1.1 million a year to operate in total, compared to around £1.6 million for providing the kerbside collection service. In order to continue to provide the best service possible for all our residents, we must consider more efficient ways of providing our services. The Council is obliged by law to provide Household Waste Sites and we will continue to meet this obligation. Budgets are diminishing which includes grant funding which directly supports this provision. In response to this it may be necessary and more appropriate to provide three household waste sites in the future, with one site provided in the north, one in the middle and one in the south of the county.”

The contract for the site at Rhydeinon is due to expire. Due to this and severe financial constraints, the Council is reviewing the provision of household waste sites in the county and is considering the future of the Rhydeinon site. A central part of this process is holding a public consultation on the Council’s proposals.

The consultation is available on the Council’s website on www.ceredigion.gov.uk/consultations. Paper copies are available from Council Cash Offices and Libraries. Residents can request a paper copy sent by post on request by contacting 01545 572572 or Technical.Services@ceredigion.gov.uk. All paper based consultation must be filled in and returned to Waste Management, Ceredigion County Council, Penmorfa, Aberaeron, SA46 0PA by 5 August 2018. The online consultation will close on the same date.
