Plans are afoot for a proposed Coastal Defence Scheme in Aberystwyth with events held to give your views.
Aberystwyth has historically been affected by flooding from coastal and river sources. Whilst works to upgrade some river defences has taken place, there have been no recent upgrades to the sea defences.
Councillor Dafydd Edwards, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways and Environmental Services said, “Recent severe storm events have seen damage to the coastal defences and large amounts of sand, stones and water thrown up on to the Promenade and Marine Terrace / Victoria Terrace. As a result, we realise we need to improve the infrastructure to avoid excessive damage during such events and therefore we are looking to bolster the sea defences. This is the opportunity to give views on a proposed Coastal Defence Scheme for Aberystwyth.”
Ceredigion County Council and the Welsh Government have funded the production of an Outline Business Case to look in more detail at the coastal defences and to come up with possible options.
The Council have been looking at how the coastal defences could be improved. The main aims are to improve protection against rising sea levels and storm events. Also, to protect people and property and give residents and businesses some reassurance that there are adequate measures in place to prevent flooding from the sea.
Drop in to have a chat and see plans at one of two events at the Bandstand, Aberystwyth Promenade on: Wednesday, 03 October 2018 between 12 noon and 8pm and on Thursday 04 October 2018 between 9am and 4.30pm.
As well as considering the idea for improving the current coastal defences, there will also be an opportunity to see some other ideas for the promenade.
