With forecasts of disruptive levels of snow and very cold temperatures, Ceredigion County Council has advised all schools to close and decided that day care centres will be closed on Thursday, 1 March and Friday 2 March, 2018. Waste collection services will also be suspended on these days.

The weather warnings indicates a high probability of significant disruption from midday tomorrow onward. The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for snow and ice from 12pm on Thursday 1 March until 8am on Friday 2 March. The Council will be treating the primary routes across Ceredigion but residents are urged not to travel unless it is deemed necessary. Non-primary routes are likely to be icy and treacherous to pass.

Councillor Ray Quant MBE, the Cabinet member responsible for Technical Services said, “Council staff are continuing with important preparatory work and will work in shift patterns starting at 12am on Thursday morning. They will be making every effort to keep Ceredigion moving, but the public are advised to take note of the information that is available to them during weather events such as this when conditions can change quickly. If travel is deemed necessary then appropriate caution should be exercised and suitable preparations made.”

In line with the responsibilities delegated to head teachers and School Governors, any school has the right to remain open, but should only do so after taking full account of the advice noting that no school transport will be provided. For further information on school closures visit the Council’s website on www.ceredigion.gov.uk .

Due to the suspension of waste collection services, residents are asked to present their waste in time for their next scheduled collections. The Council apologises for any inconvenience this causes and appreciates the public’s understanding and co-operation in such circumstances.
