Ceredigion Libraries have organised a range of events to celebrate Libraries Week, which is held between 08 and 13 October this year.

The theme is ‘My Time, My Space, My Library’ focusing on well-being. The events will highlight how libraries can bring communities together, combat loneliness, provide a space for reading and creativity and can also support people with their mental health.

To raise awareness of issues relating to well-being, a new ‘Health and Well-being’ section will be launched in Aberystwyth Library on Tuesday, 09 October. The section will contain books and other resources covering areas of interest in well-being and health, including mental health. To mark the launch, yoga and hand massage practitioners will be providing some relaxing and unwinding opportunities in addition to information stands with representatives from Mind and Carers Ceredigion.

There will be many events held across Ceredigion Libraries during Libraries Week, including:
• Welsh singalong sessions for children with singer, Gwenda Owen at Cardigan Library (9:30), Aberaeron Library (11:30) and Aberystwyth Library (13:30) on 06 October.
• Helen Palmer, County Archivist, will be giving a talk on witchcraft and magic at Lampeter Library on 09 October at 19:30.
• A remembrance evening celebrating the work of famous local poet and writer, T.Llew Jones at Aberystwyth Library on 10 October at 19:30.
• Craft and story session with local children’s author, Wendy White at Cardigan Library on 13 October at 11:00.

Councillor Ray Quant MBE, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Library Services said, “This year, Ceredigion Libraries have organised a wonderful collection of events to celebrate Libraries Week, with something to suit everyone. Our well-being is an important subject that we should dedicate time to and it’s pleasing to hear that Aberystwyth Library is showing support of this by providing informative resources. It’s very reassuring to know that Libraries are spaces that are welcoming, inclusive and have multi-purpose facilities that can be of benefit for all. Come along and see what’s on offer for you at this year’s Libraries Week.”
