Pwerdy Iaith Aberaeron held an online quiz called Cwis Zoom Aberaeron on Wednesday 11 June, in order to raise the spirits of the community during this challenging time.

Over recent years, Pwerdy iaith Aberaeron has organised several events to contribute and promote the Welsh Language cultural scene in the area. With the support of Cered they have organised a number of successful gigs with well known acts such as Huw Chiswell, Cleif Harpwood and Heather Jones attracting significant crowds to Aberaeron Memorial Hall.

Whilst it is not possible to organise similar gigs for the time being Pwerdy Iaith Aberaeron were keen to experiment with digital methods of maintaining the Welsh language culture of the town and the surrounding area and they went ahead with organising Cwis Zoom Aberaeron.

12 teams from Aberaeron and nearby villages participated as well as two local Welsh speakers now residing in London and Luxembourg.

Under the able leadership of the quizmaster Mr. Cynfael Lake six rounds of varied questions were had on themes including food and drink, leaves, sport and notable people from Ceredigion.

The winning team with 38 points out of a possible 48 was Team Almora i.e. the team of the Llywydd of the Senedd Elin Jones MS. In second place with 37 points was G&M Quizzes, Mr and Mrs. Mair Jones and in third with 32 points was Dim Gwin, Mr. Rhodri Jones and family.

The feedback has been very positive and Pwerdy Iaith Aberaeron are keen to hear from local residents on the kind of Welsh Language online community events that would be of interest to them.
