The site of the former Ysgol Cwrtnewydd will be repurposed to host Ceredigion Youth Service following a Cabinet decision made on 13 February 2018. The decision will enable the Youth Service to offer a variety of opportunities to young people aged between 11 and 25 in the county.

The Youth Service currently runs a wide range of activities for young people including outdoor youth activity programmes, school holiday provision, after school clubs and youth clubs. The Youth Service is committed to supporting young people’s development through specialised support and open access provision in order to encourage all young people to reach their fullest potential, gain confidence and have the opportunity to establish high expectations of themselves.

The decision will enable the Youth Service to provide more in-house activities and to alleviate the high costs associated with external arrangements. The decision will also ensure that the provision offered to all young people in Ceredigion is of the highest quality.

Cabinet Member responsible for Learning Services, Councillor Catrin Miles said, “Repurposing the site of Ysgol Cwrtnewydd to host the Youth Service will enable them to build on the excellent work that they undertake with the young people of Ceredigion. It also allows the Council to make the most effective use of the buildings it currently owns.”

In approving the use of Ysgol Cwrtnewydd by the Youth Service, the Cabinet revoked a previous decision taken in November 2017 that approved the site to be placed on the open market.
