Ceredigion Youth Service celebrated Youth Work Week between 23 and 30 June, a week dedicated to celebrating Youth Work all across Wales.

The Youth Service held a busy week of celebrations including an exhibition at Canolfan Rheidol and a display at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay to showcase the work of young people in Ceredigion, alongside the other local authorities across Wales.

Other celebrations the Youth Service held during the week were included events at each youth club, daily blogs and videos posted on the Service’s social media pages, over a 100 #YouthWorkWeek selfies taken with young people and colleagues across the county, an open evening at Cardigan Youth Centre and a giant jigsaw piece created to represent what Youth Work means to young people in Ceredigion.

The Youth Service also launched a new Instagram page and a promotional film highlighting the work of the Service.

Ceredigion Youth Service’s Deputy Principal Youth Officer, Lowri Evans said: “Youth Work Week gives Youth Services and organisations across Wales the opportunity to celebrate Youth Work. Here in Ceredigion, we provided a wide variety of opportunities to celebrate Youth Work Week this year and raised the profile of youth work. Ceredigion Youth Service supports young people aged between 11 and 25 in a variety of informal and non-formal settings, through targeted and universal provisions. Youth Work enables young people to develop holistically, working with them to facilitate their personal, social and educational development. This enables them to develop their voice, influence and place in society and reach their full potential.”

Councillor Catrin Miles, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Learning Services, said, “It was great to see so many events and activities hosted by Ceredigion Youth Service to celebrate Youth Work Week in Ceredigion. Youth Work provides so many opportunities for young people transitioning into adulthood and can often be a lifeline for some youngsters. Therefore, it is very important that we acknowledge, value and celebrate the work of the Youth Service and Youth Work nationally.”
