On Saturday, 21 April at 7:30pm the Ysgol Theatr Maldwyn company will be performing a sparkling new production, ‘Y Cylch’ (The Circle) at Theatr Felinfach, which was originally written in 1983. The show, set in a night club, forms an allegory of how life can turn in a circle and features memorable songs which are characteristic of shows produced over the years by the trio Derec Williams, Penri Roberts a Linda Gittins.

Ysgol Theatr Maldwyn was established in 2004 and since the company was formed has produced a number of productions, including new shows such as: ‘Crib, Siswrn a Rasel’ and ‘Llwybr Efnisien’, also written by Linda Gittins, Derec Williams and Penri Roberts, as well as new productions of ‘Nia Ben Aur’ and ‘Pum Diwrnod o Ryddid.’ Ysgol Theatr Maldwyn last visited Theatr Felinfach two years ago with the show ‘Mela’.

Ysgol Theatr Maldwyn’s aim, similarly to Theatr Felinfach is to provide an opportunity for the young people of Mid Wales to learn theatre skills: singing, acting and dance. The junior company meet on a Thursday evening at Banw Community Centre with the older group meeting on a Tuesday evening at Glantwymyn Community Centre.

Ysgol Theatr Maldwyn is the baby of Cwmni Theatr Maldwyn. Cwmni Theatr Maldwyn was formed in 1981 to perform "Y Mab Darogan" at the National Eisteddfod held in Machynlleth. Since then the company has performed in various shows in theatres across Wales, shows such as: ‘Y Cylch’, ‘Y Llew a'r Ddraig’, ‘Pum Diwrnod o Ryddid’, ‘Myfi Yw’, ‘Heledd’ and ‘Ann!’. The company reformed to perform ‘Gwydion’ which was written for the National Eisteddfod held at Meifod in 2015, written by the late Derec Williams, Penri Roberts and Gareth Glyn.
