The Welsh Language Standards Annual Monitoring Report for 2020-2021 has been published following approval in a recent Cabinet meeting.

This is the fifth full year of implementing the Welsh Language Standards in accordance with the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011, and the Cabinet approved the report in a meeting held virtually on 15 June 2021.

The report has now been published and is available to read in full on Ceredigion County Council’s website: Welsh Language Standards Monitoring Report for 2020-2021.

Among the Council’s key achievements during the past year, the report outlines how the Local Authority has succeeded in innovating in accordance with the Welsh Language Standards, by adapting quickly to the Coronavirus crisis and creating effective bilingual communication. In addition, a new Facebook page was created, Cardi-iaith, which has already proved popular and promotes the Welsh Language and offers opportunities and resources for children, young people and parents.

The Council has also raised awareness of Welsh Language services through the Clic contact centre by creating Welsh Language Standards guidelines and digital posters that prompt memory of the standard’s requirements.

A report called ‘Opportunities to use the Welsh Language during the Lockdown period’ was created in collaboration with the Forum for Bilingual Futures and a COVID-19 Terminology, which attracted national attention during the early stage of the response to the pandemic.

Virtual activities were also held, including Diwrnod Shwmae, St David’s Day and the Welsh Language Rights Day, and the successes of Council staff were celebrated during the National Welsh at Work awards held recently.

Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn, Leader of Ceredigion County Council, said: “This report outlines the County Council’s progress in meeting the requirements of the Welsh Language Standards for 2020-2021. We are proud of the progress made during the past year and all the work that has been achieved as a result. We look forward now to continuing with our commitment to the Standards in order to maintain, support and continue to improve the Welsh medium provision across all our services in 2021-22.”

Ceredigion County Council has committed to implementing the Welsh Language Standards since 30 March 2016, in accordance with the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011. It also aligns with the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act and the Council’s Corporate Priorities.
