Council officers visited Borth Wild Animal Kingdom on 25 March, to assess and monitor a situation where 3 Lechwe antelopes escaped.

We can confirm that 3 Lechwe antelopes escaped from the zoo’s enclosure, an adult male, female and a juvenile. However, the juvenile quickly retreated to the enclosure and was re-contained.

The male antelope is classified as a category 1 animal due to the length of his horns and therefore he was successfully darted and returned to the enclosure late yesterday afternoon.

The female antelope has also been captured and returned to the enclosure in the last hours.

We would like to thank the public for keeping away from the zoo and its surroundings during this period.
